Paraguay's Taiwan ties at stake in presidential election

Another diplomatic domino at risk for Taipei as challenger eyes switch to China

SAO PAULO/TAIPEI -- Paraguay's presidential election this month may determine whether Taiwan keeps its only remaining diplomatic ally in South America.

Although the two governments have maintained diplomatic ties since 1957, the top opposition candidate has indicated that he could revisit the relationship and switch to China instead.
