SEOUL -- U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi followed her trip to Taiwan with a less controversial visit to South Korea, where she called for enhanced economic and security cooperation with the American treaty ally.

"We want to advance security and governance on an interparliamentary [level]," Pelosi said in a joint statement to the media with South Korean National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo in Seoul on Thursday.
