TAIPEI -- Russia sent two frigates to sail through waters near Taiwan on Tuesday in a rare move that could further heighten tensions in the region.
"As of 23:00, two Russian frigates had been detected, sailing from south to north through the eastern waters of our territorial waters, and leaving our response area from the Suao sea to the southeast," said Sun Li-fang, spokesperson for Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense.
