JOHOR BAHRU, Malaysia -- Singapore and Malaysia will establish a passport-free QR code-based clearance process at their land border, hoping to enhance the flow of people and goods and boost growth.
On Thursday, the countries signed a memorandum of understanding to establish the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone. Singapore and the southern Malaysian state of about 4 million people are separated by a strait but linked by a causeway and a bridge. The state and city-state are economically interdependent, with hundreds of thousands crossing the border daily.
