WASHINGTON -- South Korea has ramped up engagement with the U.S. amid growing uncertainty about bilateral ties after Donald Trump's presidential victory.

Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to reduce the number of American troops based in South Korea and has hinted resuming dialogue with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, whose relations with the South have soured.
