TAIPEI -- Taiwan scrambled to respond Wednesday after reports suggested that pagers made by one of its companies may have been involved in simultaneous detonations apparently targeting members of the Hezbollah militia across Lebanon.

Gold Apollo, a Taiwanese electronics maker, denied that it made the devices that exploded, while the government in Taipei pledged to assist investigations.
