HAMBURG, Germany -- Two German warships docked in South Korea are set to sail through the Taiwan Strait over the next few days, sources told Nikkei Asia, as Berlin risks angering Beijing with a move it has not taken in more than two decades.

China's expansionist actions in recent years have prompted Western powers to assert their presence in the Indo-Pacific to protect allies and maintain the rules-based international order. The U.S., France, the U.K. and other allies have sailed through the Taiwan Strait as part of freedom-of-navigation exercises.
