Japan to increase missile units on remote islands facing Taiwan

TOKYO -- Japan plans to bolster defenses on remote islands in the East China Sea against the risk of a conflict involving nearby Taiwan.

The Ministry of Defense plans to reinforce missile and electronic-warfare units stationed on the Nansei Islands, which extend from near the southernmost tip of Kyushu to near Taiwan.
