TAIPEI/TAINAN, Taiwan -- Taiwan's Ministry of Defense on Monday said it spotted a record number of incursions by Chinese military jets, helicopters, and drones, as Beijing launched a major exercise encircling the island democracy.

The nearby presence of China's Liaoning aircraft carrier was also "creating pressure," the ministry said, while experts highlighted the extensive use of China's Coast Guard as a significant development from past maneuvers.
