SIMI VALLEY, California -- Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen met U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Wednesday in California, where they touted the strong bonds between Washington and Taipei.
The meeting at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley took place amid threats of retaliatory action from Beijing, which is against any exchange that can be viewed as a show of support of independence for the self-governing island.
