BANGKOK -- While Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin now says Thailand has no plans to station Chinese police at big tourist spots in his country, the radical and explosively controversial idea has been considered within his government, which is desperate for the mainstay tourism sector to fully recover.
An outcry was provoked on Sunday by Thapanee Kiatphaibool, governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand. "We're in talks with the Chinese embassy," Thapanee said, "about a patrol program to bring Chinese police to Thailand."
