LONDON -- The U.K. government is considering inviting China to an upcoming global summit on artificial intelligence, a proposal that has drawn opposition from Japan, sources said.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced during a visit to the U.S. in June that the U.K. would host the first-ever AI Safety Summit this fall.
