MANILA -- The leaders of the United States, Japan and the Philippines will meet for their first trilateral summit at the White House next month, as tensions with Beijing soar over its claims in the South China Sea.

In a statement on Tuesday, Washington said the April 11 summit between U.S. President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will see the trio discuss security ties and countering China's regional influence.
