WASHINGTON -- From railroads to farmland, American lawmakers have called for closer scrutiny of Chinese business deals in the U.S. -- a topic on which President Joe Biden has shown a willingness to listen to both parties.

Rep. Peter DeFazio, chair of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, last month urged greater examination of the purchase of rail cars from Chinese state-owned companies.
