TOKYO -- China on Monday slammed the U.S. State Department for removing a sentence against "Taiwan independence" from a fact sheet, saying that Washington's position has "seriously regressed."

"We urge the U.S. to immediately correct its mistake," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun told reporters.
