NEW YORK -- American companies operating in China are losing their optimism about business in the once-booming economy amid bilateral political tensions and a slow post-pandemic recovery.

The percentage of companies feeling optimistic about the business outlook in China over the next five years dropped to a record-low 52% in an annual report released Tuesday by the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai.
