ISTANBUL -- Uyghurs in Turkey welcomed police efforts to clamp down on Chinese espionage after a spy ring was busted, saying they had long been Beijing's targets.

Turkish intelligence and law enforcement said in early May that they arrested seven Chinese nationals accused of gathering information about Uyghurs and local officials through the use of fake cellphone base stations.
