TOKYO -- Japanese companies are paying closer attention to the Central Asian nation of Uzbekistan, an aspiring technology powerhouse with a young population, as a potential source of IT talent that is in short supply at home.

The country is cultivating tech talent like 23-year-old Umid Hamdamov, a student at Japan Digital University in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent.
