SHANGHAI -- Chinese President Xi Jinping told his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Wednesday both countries should do more together to protect their security, in a veiled jab at Western nations pressuring them over human rights and military buildups.

A primetime evening news broadcast on state-run CCTV showed the two leaders waving and smiling at one another at the start of their video summit.
