SHANGHAI/PARIS -- Chinese President Xi Jinping is performing a delicate balancing act during his trip to Europe, analysts said, as he seeks to bolster economic ties with the region while facing growing pressure to fix trade imbalances and intervene in the Ukraine war.

Xi used his visit to France earlier this week to signal a commitment to open trade and call for a global war truce during the Paris Olympics, before moving to Serbia where he delivered a defiant message to NATO. Hungary, where he arrived late Wednesday and where Chinese battery companies have invested billions of euros to build factories, is his last stop.
