It is China's Hong Kong now

Nozomu Ogawa, Nikkei staff photographer | China

HONG KONG -- Chinese President Xi Jinping had some choice words for Hong Kong on July 1, the 20th anniversary of the former British colony's handover to Chinese rule: Respect Beijing's authority. While flags and fireworks created a festive atmosphere, police blocked roads around the city. After Xi left town, tens of thousands of Hong Kongers spilled into streets. Nozomu Ogawa's camera captured the quasi-celebration and the very real tension.
