Japan defense chief to visit US anti-missile test site

Onodera eyes Aegis Ashore system in Hawaii, plans meeting with US counterpart

TOKYO -- Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera will visit a test site in Hawaii for the Aegis Ashore missile defense system during his January trip to the U.S. for a meeting with American counterpart Jim Mattis in Washington to discuss the North Korean situation.

At the stopover on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, Onodera also is expected to meet with the head of the U.S. Pacific Command, Adm. Harry Harris.
