TOKYO -- Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba is expected to seek a path to stay in power with a minority government after a key opposition party ruled out joining the coalition led by his Liberal Democratic Party.
The Democratic Party for the People (DPP), which won 28 seats in Sunday's general election, will not join the LDP-Komeito coalition, leader Yuichiro Tamaki told a news conference Tuesday. Tamaki has also decided against forming a government with the Constitutional Democratic Party (CDP), the largest opposition party, and declined a meeting of party leaders to discuss cooperating on the upcoming vote for prime minister.
