Japan leads charge for US-less TPP, but path remains murky

At Toronto talks, members differ on whether to preserve pact's terms

Japan's lead negotiator on the TPP, Keiichi Katakami, spoke to reporters Tuesday before talks with counterparts from the pact's other signatory nations.

TORONTO -- The path remains unclear for a Trans-Pacific Partnership without the U.S., as Japan sought here on Tuesday and Wednesday to push the trade pact through as it stands, but Vietnam and other signatories hinted they would seek changes.
