TOKYO -- The political funds scandal rocking Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party is seen hindering key policy initiatives by Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, starting with the government's plan to hike taxes in order to fund greater defense spending.
The ruling coalition had hoped to include the timing of the hikes in its tax reform guidelines for fiscal 2024. But LDP tax research chief Yoichi Miyazawa said Monday that the party will postpone the decision.
