TOKYO -- Tokyo prosecutors have decided to launch a criminal investigation into the ruling Liberal Democratic Party's largest faction over allegations that it failed to report the equivalent of millions of dollars in income from fundraising parties.

Formally known as the Seiwa policy group, the faction formerly led by slain Prime Minister Shinzo Abe requires its members to sell a certain number of tickets to the fundraising parties. Members received kickbacks when their sales exceeded quotas.
