TOKYO -- Shigeru Ishiba, former secretary-general of the Liberal Democratic Party, has taken the lead from former Environment Minister Shinjiro Koizumi in the latest Nikkei opinion poll asking who the best choice is to lead the LDP.
Since the LDP is the ruling party in Japan, the party's next president would presumably become the new prime minister. The LDP presidential election will take place on Sept. 27.
