TOKYO -- A former Japanese cabinet minister gaining support from younger lawmakers plans to throw his hat in the ruling Liberal Democratic Party's presidential election in September, setting the stage for a crowded race in which political veterans are also mulling candidacies.
Takayuki Kobayashi, who previously served as economic security minister, plans to announce his candidacy as early as Monday, sources said.
