Japan sows information sharing to cultivate rice exports

Linking farmers with sellers could quadruple foreign shipments

TOKYO -- Japan looks to forge an information-sharing network between the country's exporters and domestic rice producers, aiming to quadruple shipments of the staple abroad by 2019.

The agriculture ministry will support a system letting rice farmers in over 200 localities communicate easily with around 40 exporters who can find international buyers that best suit the types of rice and harvest yields for each producer.
