Japan to speed up approval of AI for diagnostic imaging unit

New system means tech can be in commercial use within a year of development

TOKYO -- Japan will shorten the examination period for an artificial-intelligence-powered diagnostic imaging software and other med-tech to be approved for commercial use, Nikkei has learned.

The government will create a new approval system that allows the agile implementation of such state-of-the-art technologies in the medical field. With the new system, such technologies can be put into commercial use within a year of their development.
