TOKYO -- The Japanese government plans to join hands with venture capital firms to help Japanese companies make inroads into Africa by gathering information about local startups and facilitating tie-ups, Nikkei has learned.

The initiative is to be announced at an African economic conference to be held in Ivory Coast on Monday.
