Kishida cabinet's approval rating slides to 47%: Nikkei poll

Performance as G-7 chair overshadowed by son's questionable behavior

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida received high marks as chair of the recent Group of Seven summit in Hiroshima, according to the latest Nikkei/TV Tokyo survey. (Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs via Reuters)

TOKYO -- Support for Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's cabinet fell 5 percentage points from April to 47% in the latest Nikkei/TV Tokyo survey, the first decline in five months.

Although Kishida received high marks as chair of the recent Group of Seven summit in Hiroshima, reports of his eldest son's behavior at the prime minister's residence appear to have undercut support.
