TOKYO -- Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said Thursday that he is considering disbanding the ruling party faction he once led as prosecutors widen their investigation of a political funds scandal.

"The Liberal Democratic Party must survive," Kishida told reporters. He spoke with lawmakers in his faction to build a consensus for the dissolution.
