KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia's former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on Wednesday announced that he will not run in the country's next federal election, due by mid-2023 but widely expected to be called sometime this year.

Mahathir, who will turn 97 in July, recently recovered from a serious ailment for which he was repeatedly hospitalized at Kuala Lumpur's National Heart Institute.
