KUALA LUMPUR -- A core party in Malaysia's ruling coalition will hold internal elections this weekend for its executive roles, with a bid by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's eldest daughter for its deputy presidency raising stakes for the party's leadership race -- and potentially the country's future politics.

The People's Justice Party, locally known as Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), holds party elections every three years, with 9,000 national delegates casting in-person votes and 20,000 delegates voting virtually during the party congress. Anwar, the party's co-founder, has already won as president unopposed this time.
