TEHRAN -- Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh's assassination in northern Tehran on Wednesday has pushed Iran's new President Masoud Pezeshkian to call for revenge, a move that could escalate tensions between the Islamic Republic and Israel.
Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend Pezeshkian's swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday and was killed in what Hamas said was an "airstrike" on a residential compound where he was staying in the wee hours of Wednesday.
