CAIRO -- The Israeli military strikes against Iran that began last week harbor an apparent ambition -- the overthrow of the Islamic regime that rules Iran.

Much like Israel's objective of a complete victory in Gaza, this appears to be a difficult mission for a military force. But with the fighting now started, U.S. President Donald Trump's goal of resolving the chaos through a diplomatic deal is now more distant than ever.
