NEW DELHI -- Yogi Adityanath, chief minister of India's Uttar Pradesh state and a potential candidate to succeed Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the future, wants to make the state a hub for the defense industry.

"Uttar Pradesh boasts a wide array of manufacturing opportunities due to its diverse geography, abundant raw materials, ample labor force and strategic location linking [the National Capital Region] with central and eastern India," Adityanath told Nikkei, referring to his goal of attracting private-sector investment to the state.
