ANAND TUMURTOGOO

ULAANBAATAR -- Mongolia is in political turmoil as Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai races to regain trust ahead of an expected confidence vote in parliament.

Allegations of lavish spending by his son sparked widespread outrage and raised questions about the legitimacy of the prime minister's wealth. Young protesters have taken to the streets for days, chanting slogans and demanding that he either disclose his income or resign, implying it would be easier to do the latter. As the protests grew and social media exploded with criticism, the pressure on Luvsannamsrai intensified with reports that President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa wants him to step down.
