TOKYO -- North Korea and the U.S. continue to play a game of political intrigue, with the former conducting major military drills Tuesday while the latter builds an international coalition to pressure Pyongyang into giving up its nuclear program.
North Korea stopped short of conducting major provocative actions, such as a sixth nuclear test, for the 85th anniversary of the founding of its military. The country likely sought to avoid a full-scale clash with the U.S., which boasts far superior military capabilities and has not yet stated what actions by Pyongyang would produce an armed response.
