Opposition says no to naming SDF in constitution

Democrats draft campaign platform for Japan's snap election

TOKYO -- The Democratic Party will resist Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's plans for adding the Self-Defense Forces to the constitution's war-renouncing Article 9, the leading Japanese opposition party said in a draft platform drawn up Friday.

Abe is expected to dissolve the lower house next Thursday for a snap election.
