ISLAMABAD -- The second-largest party in the coalition that governed Pakistan until August is crying foul over the military's apparent backing of its erstwhile partner, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), hinting that it could ally with political forces loyal to jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan instead.
Parties are jostling for position as the South Asian country, now run by a caretaker government, prepares for elections scheduled for Feb. 8. The Pakistan People's Party (PPP), whose chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari served as foreign minister alongside the PML-N's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, appears increasingly frustrated.
