ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan is poised to go to the polls on Feb. 8, as election officials bat away persistent suggestions of a postponement.

Voters are due to select a new 336-member National Assembly as well as four provincial legislatures, which will go on to elect the prime minister and chief ministers for the next five years.
