SYDNEY -- Surangel Whipps Jr. has won another term as president of Palau, defeating his brother-in-law and former President Thomas Remengesau Jr.

Whipps released a statement on Monday saying he was "deeply humbled" that voters returned him to office following the vote on Nov. 5. He pledged to build on the foundation of his first term.
