MANILA -- Regina Lopez, who rocked the Philippines mining sector during her ten-month stewardship of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, has been rejected as the agency's secretary by a congressional panel.

Senator Manny Pacquiao, who chairs the panel, made the announcement on Wednesday, capping a series of hearings, which the boxing legend called "perhaps the longest, most dramatic, and most watched by all Filipinos from all walks of life."
