MANILA -- Bong Go, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte's preferred successor, said Tuesday he is dropping out of the race for the May 2022 presidential election.

Go's withdrawal is seen as a boost for the campaign of Ferdinand Marcos Jr., son and namesake of the late dictator, and could put pressure on opposition factions to unite.
