ILOILO CITY, Philippines -- Lawyer Dino de Leon stood out among the opposition senatorial candidates as they delivered stump speeches in central Iloilo City on Tuesday. De Leon himself is not running for senate, but sat on stage with a cardboard cutout of his client, Sen. Leila de Lima.

Since 2017, de Lima has served most of her six-year term from behind bars. With no internet or television, she has received news through a daily communications packet, sending back handwritten bills and resolutions.
