MANILA -- Philippine lawmakers moved closer to ousting Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday after gathering the required number of signatures for a petition to start her impeachment trial in the Senate.

The Philippine Congress Secretary General Reginald Velasco indicated that the petition seeking Duterte's impeachment that circulated around Congress gathered 215 signatures, more than the requisite one-third of lawmakers in the 306-member lower house.
