MANILA -- The Philippines on Tuesday kicked off the three-month campaign period for midterm elections to be held on May 12, which will gauge the public's assessment of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s government and shape the country's political landscape toward the next presidential election in 2028.
While voters are expected to choose their representatives at national and local levels, much of the focus will be on the Senate, which has a strong power in Philippine politics and takes a crucial role in whether to keep Vice President Sara Duterte in office.
