SINGAPORE -- Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on Sunday tightened his grip on the reins of political power in the city-state, as his ruling People's Action Party signaled his rise to its top leadership position with a general election due in the coming year.
It marks another, expected, milestone in the meteoric ascent of the 51-year-old Wong, son of a sales manager father and schoolteacher mother, who rose through the ranks as a bureaucrat before winning his first parliamentary election in 2011.
